When the Cost of Following Jesus looks you in the face

We have been living in the USA for just over a year now, enjoying the American life and the season we have been here. But when God tells you it is time to return to your home country and you have to tell your children, to hear them crying, how do you process it?

We’ve been living in the USA for just over a year now, enjoying the American life and the season we have been here. But when God tells you it’s time to return to your home country and you have to tell your children, to hear them crying, how do you process it?

Tonight we sat with an amazing couple and shared with them about leaving. They are dear to us and as I sat opposite and watched my wife and the other wife tearing up, it was hard. And they weren’t the first or the last, we have had to share this news with many people and it’s heart wrenching. Jacqui and I connect deeply with people, so this is hard.

But Gods will is not easy and it has never been. If we were to measure the will of God based on how easy it would be, then:

  • Joseph must have missed it, cause he was thrown in prison
  • David must have missed it because the king was trying to kill him
  • Jeremiah, the prophet whom God told that He had plans to prosper him, must have missed it cause he was persecuted seriously.
  • Ten of the eleven remaining disciples were martyred for their faith, did they miss it?
  • Paul was put in prison, shipwrecked and eventually beheaded, did he miss it?

So as I have processed this I have taken comfort from my Lord and how he obeyed Gods will, even when He had to look it in the face. (Please understand that I am in no way saying that what I am going through compares in anyway to the sacrifice Christ made).

And here were my three take home points:

1. Jesus did not deny how the situation made Him feel, He even asked if it was possible to have it removed from Him.

2. He took His feelings to His Father in prayer.

3. He surrendered His Will to Gods will.

So as our family goes through this season we have chosen to embrace His will, to see the pain on people’s faces but through prayer surrender daily to His will.

So what is He asking you to do?

Are you willing to not just count your own cost, but the cost of others?

Choose to surrender today to the will of the Father.

P.S. As we have continued to pray I can share that God has really done an amazing turn around in the hearts of my children. Thank you Jesus.
