Start where you are

Don't talk yourself out of your calling.

Some of you need to hear this today. Too often God asks us to do something, and we don’t act because we talk ourselves out of it. We don’t feel that we are qualified enough, good enough and all we see are our own issues.

Yet, this is what I love about God. He takes us and uses us despite our issues. Jesus walked with Peter for three years, only to find him still wanting to chop off the soldiers ear in the garden and of course he ends up denying Him completely, yet He still chooses him to be the one to lead the early church. Gideon was also another such character. God called Him to lead a nation, where was he? Hiding.  Even when Gideon responded to God’s call, he didn’t suddenly become this powerful, confident guy. Look at his first act:

Judges 6:27

“Then Gideon took ten men of his servants and did as Jehovah had spoken unto him: and it came to pass, because he feared his father’s household and the men of the city, so that he could not do it by day, that he did it by night.”

Gideon stepped out to obey God, but fear of his own family was still a snare to him, but that didn’t stop God. God wasn’t sitting in heaven regretting the fact that he had called Gideon. It was a process. So next time God asks you to do something and you talk yourself out of it because of your “short comings” remember that God doesn’t make  mistakes, when He called you, He knew what He was doing. Trust Him and the process He needs to take you on, because in the end an entire nation was delivered through Gideon.
