I don't know what God wants me to do!

A massive key to Hearing God's Voice

“I don’t know what God wants me to do!”

Ever heard someone say that to you? Ever said it yourself? Of course you have. All of us have been in that place, been in a place of uncertainty and confused with what exactly He requires of us to do. It echoes what Paul wrote to the church in Corinth when he said:

“But, as it is written,

“What no eye has seen, nor ear heard,

nor the heart of man imagined,

what God has prepared for those who love him” (1 Cor 2:9)

For the greater part, most of us use this scripture as an excuse. An excuse not to find out. I’ve even heard people quoting this scripture but not giving the entirety of its reference. Scholars tell us that Paul is possibly referencing Isaiah 64:4. What is important to understand about this scripture is that it is actually not a verse one can look at on its own, because this is not our present state. 1 Cor 2:9 is telling us how things were under the Old Covenant, so for us to fully get what God’s heart is we need to read the next verse:

v10 “these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God.”

Come on! God is not wanting to keep us in the dark. This is a promise, He promises us that what He has prepared for us (v9) will be revealed to us (v10). But how? Through the Spirit. But here lies our problem. Our problem, with knowing Gods will for our future, doesn’t lie with God, it lies in our ability or should I say our inability at times to hear from the Holy Spirit.

Our destiny, our calling, His direction in our lives is wrapped up in relationship. We want the instant option. He wants to talk. If the only time we come to Him is in those life defining moments, we will struggle to get answers because we are not used to hearing His voice daily. Let’s push into relationship, let’s sit at His feet, lets listen. Even if you don’t need an answer, He wants to talk. He wants your affection; He wants to express His love. Make your life about communion with the Father and sure enough HE will reveal His heart, even the depths of His heart with you. What a honour that is. Don’t take it lightly.
